Tofillo Farm

At our farm tofillo, on the Omalos plateau, a few meters before the entrance of the famous Samaria Gorge, the nature that surrounds it and the altitude of 1,227 meters allows us to cultivate Organic Malotira, the famous Cretan mountain tea. The farm tofillo launches a new activity by opening its door to a program of experiential visits and experiences, for all those who want to have an experience with the organic herbs of Crete, the philosophy, tradition, the relationship with the land, the beneficial properties. For all those who have interest to smell, to taste and to enjoy a unique experience of sightseeing in time and nature.
A different note in sightseeing tours which aims at the transmission of knowledge, through experiential activities, wandering in nature, taste experiences and tests, listening and dialogue. Visitors have the opportunity to get to know the way we grow herbs, their natural way of processing, their traditional management, to taste them, make their own drinks by combining different herbs, to try the use of herbs in cooking and in Cretan cuisine participating in culinary creations.

The experience of visiting tofillo Farm

A visit to tofillo estate is a unique experience. A series of interactive activities such as planting malotira, harvesting, along with tasting traditional Cretan herbal teas leads visitors to explore and learn about Cretan culture and philosophy. But the experience does not stop here… Our visitors make their own unique beverages combining different Cretan herbs. They try using herbs in cooking, while learning how to make traditional Cretan dishes. They create their own delicious dishes using culinary herb mixtures and spices inspired by the Cretan tradition and the Mediterranean diet.

The experience of the visit begins with…

• A guided tour of the estate and the cultivation of Malotira. Information about the estate, the activities, how they got started, by whom.

• Acquaintance with the natural environment of Omalos, the microclimate of the area, the endemic herbs, the Cretan tradition, the history and myths.

• The cultivation of Malotira in its natural environment, why we chose organic and anhydrous cultivation, daily work on the estate, planting, harvesting, treating, drying, processing, packaging.

Visiting Days and Hours

Information

•  The duration of the visit is 2 hours .Upon arrangement and for those who wish, your stay on the estate can be extended.

•  From the arrival until the departure of visitors, the organizer and attendant of the visit, has the producer and agronomist of organic farm, Mrs. Rodo Vasilakis who owns the farm as well.

•  The farm tofillo is open from May to October.

•  Visits to the estate are made upon arrangement by filling out the relevant form, by phone (+30 28215 06927) or by e-mail ([email protected]).

Entrance fee: 20€/person.

Free Admission for children up to 5 years old.
