One of the most important and treasured herbs of Crete, known for its remarkable healing and therapeutic value. The purple flowers of Dittany create a delightful tea with a flavor reminiscent of oregano. Our Dittany tea is sure to amaze you!
Cretan Dittany is rich in healing properties. Its high carvacrol (phenol) content provides:
Antibacterial
Antimicrobial
Antifungal properties
Traditionally, it has also been used as an anti-rheumatic, and digestive aid.
A warm cup of Dittany tea may help relieve stomach pain, menstrual cramps, and also acts as a natural diuretic.
When served hot, it may help strengthen the heart muscles and arteries, and also acts as a gentle menstrual tonic.
A warm cup of our organic Dittany tea with a tablespoon of honey and a cinnamon stick is a soothing remedy for coughs!
Blend it with Cretan sage or Malotira tea for a comforting, immune-boosting experience!
While it is not a pharmaceutical product and should not be treated as one, this remarkable herb has much to offer your body and overall wellness.
These “healing effects” are drawn from bibliographic sources, traditional practices, and empirical use.
Place 1g of dried herb (about one tablespoon) into a container with a lid.*
Add 200ml (one cup) of hot water at *90°C .
Let it steep for 3 to 5 minutes, allowing the herb to release its hidden strength!
The steeping time depends on how strong you want your infusion—the longer it steeps, the richer the flavor.
Remove the herb from the pot.
Your tea is now ready to enjoy!
If you prefer a sweeter taste, feel free to add a little honey.
Use water just before it reaches boiling to avoid losing the herb’s essential oils to steam. The container should remain closed during steeping to lock in the properties and aromas into your warm cup.
Follow the same steps as the hot preparation, with one key difference:
Double the amount of herb.
At the end, pour your tea over a glass full of ice and enjoy it plain—or with a touch of honey!
